Frequently Asked Questions
Answers You Can Trust — From a Bondsman Who’s Been There
- What do I need to do to become a bail agent in Mississippi?- You must complete the state-required 40-hour Pre-License Course, pass the state exam, and apply for licensure through the Mississippi Department of Insurance. MSBTI’s course satisfies the educational requirement and fully prepares you for the next steps.
- Do you offer online classes?- Yes. All of our classes — both pre-license and continuing education — are available online and in person. Online classes are instructor-led and follow the same curriculum as our in-person sessions.
- Who teaches your classes?- Our courses are taught by a licensed, working bail bondsman with over 31 years of field experience. You’re not learning from a seminar speaker or part-time trainer — you’re learning from someone who’s done the job, day in and day out.
- How long is the pre-license course?- The pre-license course is 40 hours, spread out over four days. You must complete the full 40 hours to be eligible to apply for your Mississippi bail agent license.
- What is continuing education (CE), and do I need it?- If you're already a licensed bail agent in Mississippi, state law requires you to complete 8 hours of continuing education each year to maintain your license. MSBTI’s CE course meets all requirements and includes updates on Mississippi and Louisiana bonding laws.
- Are there any prerequisites to enroll?- You must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and meet the eligibility requirements set by the Mississippi Department of Insurance, including having no disqualifying criminal history.
- Is MSBTI part of an association? Do I have to pay dues?- No. MSBTI is not affiliated with an association, and we do not charge any membership dues. You pay only for the education you need — no extras, no hidden fees.
- Do you offer advanced or specialized training?- Yes. In addition to licensing and CE courses, we offer optional workshops on bail enforcement, skip tracing, and fugitive recovery for those wanting to build deeper skill sets.
